Digitalization in professional activity of a school teacher

Digitalization as a means of achieving goals of modern education significantly influences professional activ-ity of a school teacher by imposing new requirements on the competence characteristics the teachers should possess. Besides the knowledge of theory and methodology of teaching a school subject as well as psychological and pedagogical aspects of educational process management, modern teachers should demonstrate well-developed digital competence to provide every student with the opportunity to achieve the intended learning outcomes on the basis of the growing potential of digital technologies. In the article, the results of the survey carried out among the school teachers of Novosibirsk are discussed. The aim of the survey was to determine the digital technologies and resources school teachers use in their professional activity. The findings indicate that school teachers mostly use electronic educational resources to find materials for lesson preparation, and digital tools and platforms to control and record students’ pro-gress. School computers and multimedia devices are employed to present new materials to study. However, the potential of digital technologies in organizing students’ learning activity is not properly exploited, which necessitates further development of teachers’ digital competence.
