Possibility of Implementing Transformations in English Technical Text Translation

Translation of a technical text is a special skill that, in the course of teaching ‘Foreign Language’ and related disciplines to the students of a technical university, must be developed and consolidated, since the future specialist is required to be able to obtain the necessary information, including those gained from foreign language sources. At the same time, the style of a technical text has its own characteristics, and then the question arises about the relevance of transferring information from a foreign language to the target language. One of the ways to correctly convey the meaning of a text is to use translation transformations, which must be resorted to in case of a discrepancy between lexical units and grammatical phenomena of languages during the translation process. Transformations at the lexical, grammatical, stylistic level are a relevant way to solve the translation problem when it concerns texts of any genre from fiction to scientific literature, but in the case of text material of a technical nature, it is necessary to take into account the requirement to the text of translation and the translated text to be as much identical in their meanings as possible. This is due to the fact that the information contained, for example, in a technical manual, patent, or instruction manual for a device must be conveyed as accurately as possible. Thus, the translator is faced with the task of selecting suitable translation transformations not to distort the meaning of the original, but to contribute to its most correct perception. The article makes an attempt to show the fundamental interdependence of transformation types of lexical or grammatical phenomenon that necessitates the use of a certain type of transformation in translation. This approach seems important to the author from the point of view of teaching technical students to translate technical texts correctly, since the connection of transformation with the lexical and grammatical components of the text makes the need for translation replacement more understandable and obvious, which in turn helps to implement the most correct ways of transformations usage. Solving the problem of choosing the ways to implement lexical and grammatical transformations remains relevant due to the need to train technical university students to use the entire range of translation tools and techniques, since the volume of technical information received by students via the Internet is constantly increasing.
